Growing together with Mossel Counseling

Mindfulness focus for neuodivergent minds

Mindfulness is a core value of my counseling practice and supportive to be effective in stress reduction. I practice and teach mindfulness as a daily practice as it helps in the best and worst moments. You will find my practice involves recognizing your strengths such as imagination, humor, and resilience during life changes.

Emotional Regulation for autism spectrum disorder

I have worked in four different autism programs such as La Salle Autism and Developmental Disabilities Education Resources (LADDER), Ramapo for children, CREATE at child guidance resource center, and at the ARC of New York State. I was the main male therapist for referrals for adults and children with autism while working at the family counseling center of Fulton County.

Specialization in AD/HD

I have worked with children and adult for 10 years in helping to identify and manage stress in helpful ways. I have experience working in special education counseling children at school as well as in the summer camp environment with the teen leadership program at Ramapo for Children. I have many fond memories of seeing teens with AD/HD push beyond their comfort zone and participate in confidence building activities such as a talent show, graduating high school, and getting through college.

Take this private AD/HD screener to see if my services would be helpful for you (email is required).

https://growtherapy.com/mental-health-tests/adhd-test/

I am able to give a provisional diagnosis of AD/HD that can be helpful in getting established with care, which can help you access therapy and/ or medication management care. It is not sufficient to receive accommodations on testing

Neuropsychiatric assessment is the standard of determining with confidence if you or your child has AD/HD.

Every insurance panel is required to have a clinical psychologist in network and calling the number on the back of your insurance card is helpful for obtaining an accurate assessment.

I recommend Francess George, NPP for assessment and medication management.

418 Broadway, Albany, NY 12207

I also recommend the following providers and services for medication management

Relationship Counseling

Couple's sessions involve regular grounding skills to allow both parties to discuss meaningful topics while maintaining stress.  You will learn how to communicate your needs and boundaries effectively. I provide conflict mediation by being a neutral third party. The family court of Fulton County has referred to me directly for complex family cases involving mediation.

Validation and Coping Skills Training

Dialectical behavior therapy skills can help you develop a healthier sense of self-worth and confidence. I will help you identify negative self-talk, develop self-regulation skills, and improve your relationships with others.

DBT skills are shown by research to be especially helpful for people with AD/HD and are specifically helpful for people with borderline personality disorder.

I attended a DBT class in graduate school and have run a DBT group in the past. I have 35 hours of training from a Linehan certified trainer from Marsha Linehan's company Behavior Tech.

I recommend this Rutgers University DBT clinic Youtube channel to learn more about if these emotional regulation skill are right for you.

Evidence-based Trauma Counseling

If you've experienced trauma, it's important to seek help from a qualified therapist. At Aloe Counseling, we offer therapies that successful is helping people recover from significant trauma even after you graduate from counseling. Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) for post- traumatic stress disorder is a therapy for people with complex trauma that involves recognizing how beliefs about the traumatic event and avoidance maintain anxiety. This 12-15 session therapy involves practice in between sessions and improvements can be seen by the 4th session. CPT is effective in-person as well as through telehealth.

Substance Use Counseling

You deserve a strong therapeutic relationship that will help you build motivation to face the source of your substance-use. I completed my coursework for Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC). I follow new stringent privacy laws involving giving you the most control over your healthcare records following the HIPAA update in 2026 (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). Relationships are an important part of our lives, but they can also be challenging when substance use creates problems. My support through building skills to manage triggers and stress will help you find a life worth living.

Your Healing Process

In a society that is quick to recommend quick fixes and miracle cures, I understand how difficult it can be hard to try something as intimidating at counseling. I feel that counseling speeds up your natural healing process rather than assumes that you are broken and need to be fixed. Whether you want to get unstuck from unhelpful patterns of thought, or are adjusting a stressful phase of life, my method can help you in your recovery process. I use evidence-based methods to assist in building a therapeutic relationship and teach skills that can help symptom reduction even after you graduate from therapy.

I do not turn away clients

I have a policy to not turn away clients based on having significant mental health symptoms. I have significant training in working with several conditions that commonly get turned away due to therapist limitations. I work with individuals that have hallucinations, anger issues, suicidal thoughts, non-suicidal self injury/ self-harm, bipolar disorder and significant trauma history. I hope to treat you with dignity, especially considering that it is hard to be turned away by a previous therapist. Please understand that I am required to refer people with certain conditions to a medication referral based on New York State law. You are not forced by me to meet with a medication provider. Please understand that I still have limits. For example, that if a client stalks, physically attacks, or has sexual focus on a Counselor, it is an exception to this rule and a referral will be made.
